Yappa
Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 12, 2026
Summary
Yappa is designed as a local-first macOS app. In Local-Only Mode, transcription and enhancement are restricted to on-device or local options, so your audio and text should not leave your Mac through Yappa.
If Local-Only Mode is off, you may choose or configure cloud transcription or AI enhancement providers. In that case, Yappa may send audio, text, selected text, prompts, or related context only to the providers you select or configure.
Yappa does not include telemetry, tracking, or analytics.
Information Yappa handles
Yappa may handle audio recordings, transcripts, selected text, enhanced text, prompt text, app settings, metadata, and local history so the app can record, transcribe, enhance, and insert text at your cursor.
Yappa may store recordings, transcripts, metadata, and history locally on your Mac. You can manually delete history and recordings, and Yappa includes auto-delete controls for transcript text, audio files, transcript plus audio, or entire recording rows.
Local-Only Mode
When Local-Only Mode is enabled, Yappa restricts transcription and enhancement to local options only, including local transcription and local enhancement through options such as Ollama or other local providers.
In this mode, user audio and text should not leave your Mac through Yappa's transcription or enhancement features.
Cloud and configured providers
If Local-Only Mode is off, you may choose or configure cloud transcription or enhancement providers. Supported provider types may change over time and may include local providers, OpenAI-compatible endpoints, Anthropic, OpenAI, Groq, cloud transcription providers, or similar services.
When you use a provider, that provider's own terms, privacy policy, retention settings, and security practices apply. Yappa sends data only to the providers you select or configure for the requested feature.
API keys and licensing
Provider API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain.
Yappa may make network calls for user-selected AI providers, model downloads, and license validation. Licensing may use Polar.sh or another license provider. Trial or license state may be stored locally and/or in Keychain to help prevent trial reset abuse.
Permissions
Microphone access is required to record your voice for transcription.
Accessibility access is required to read selected text and paste or insert results at the cursor.
Screen Recording access is optional and is used only to read frontmost window title or context as an intent signal when a feature needs that context.
Tracking and analytics
Yappa has no telemetry, no tracking, and no analytics. The app privacy manifest is intended to declare no collected data types and no tracking based on the current product design.
